Consultant in Respiratory Medicine
Professor Howard Branley is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine on the Specialist Register with the General Medical Council (GMC).
He is a lung specialist providing specialist diagnosis and treatment for respiratory, chest and sleep disorders. Professor Branley has been specialising in respiratory medicine for over 20 years, with more than 10 years’ experience as an NHS Consultant. He typically see patients with cough, wheeze, breathlessness and snoring. He has expertise in a wide variety of lung diseases particularly asthma, sarcoidosis, sleep apnoea, tuberculosis (TB), pneumonia, lung cancer and pleural disease e.g. pneumothorax and pleural effusion. Professor Branley is particularly interested in seeing patients with unexplained breathlessness or cough.
Professor Branley qualified in medicine in 1992 from the University of Liverpool and trained in respiratory medicine in Liverpool and London. He trained in Respiratory Medicine in London teaching hospitals including The Royal Brompton, The Hammersmith, St Mary's and Charing Cross Hospitals. During his postgraduate training he obtained a Master of Science with Distinction in Respiratory Medicine (MSc) followed by a Doctorate in Respiratory Medicine (MD), both at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
Professor Branley divides his professional time between seeing private patients, medicolegal work and aviation medicine. He is still an Honorary NHS Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and undergoes annual Consultant Appraisal with revalidation by the GMC.
